First Dance Song

First Dance Song

You would think that choosing a song for your first dance would be such an easy decision.  I am sure for some people it is. Especially if you have a song as a couple (maybe Sir-Mix-A-lots – Baby got back  is pushing it a bit far though!).

For my husband and I it was an agonising decision, neither of us are really dancers (well I can at least keep time but my husband has two left feet), or like being the centre of attention.  So we decided on a song that everyone would get up and dance for.  We chose 500 miles by the Proclaimers.  The words are really appropriate for us so we went for it.  It was a great success, our family and friends got up and danced, whilst we just stood there singing – a result for us!

Do you keep it safe with classic first dance song territory or impress the music snobs with something a little bit off-beat? Do you slow dance your way through a John Legend ballad or book in some first dance lessons so you can impress a faintly alarmed crowd of guests with a Dirty Dancing lift? Decisions, decisions…

I have put together a list of my top twenty first dance songs (in no particular order) – uncommon ones of course!

The wannadies – You and Me Song

The Cure – Just like heaven

Obadiah Parker – Hey ya

The La’s – There she goes

Madness – It must be love

Cat Power – Sea of Love

The Smiths – There’s a light that never goes out

Beach Boys – God only knows

Elton John – I want love

Pulp – Something changed

Foo Fighters – Everlong

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – Into my arms

Oasis – She’s Electric

Sixpence None the Richer – Kiss me

Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of your life)

The Flaming Lips – Do you Realize?

Coldplay – Yellow

Matchbox Twenty – Time After Time

We look forward to hearing your suggestions!
